Who connects the system to the grid?
Solar West systems are fully connected to the grid at no extra charge. Solar West completes all paperwork and installation formalities for you in conjunction with your electricity distributor.
How much roof space is required?
Available roof space, consumption patterns and your desired outcome will all influence your decision on what particular size solar power system will best suit your specific circumstances. The smallest by area Solar West system comes with 6 x 250 Watt panels that only require approximately 11m2 of roof space. Each package size up from this system will require slightly more roof space.
Does the price include all the necessary paperwork and metering changes?
Solar West completes all paperwork on behalf of our residential and commercial clients; Just sign the Grid Connect Application and we take care of everything else.
What are STC's and what are my options to trade them?
STC's (Small Scale Technology Certificates) are the currency of the REC market. STC's are NOT a rebate but can be traded for a cash return per unit.. Your STC's can be traded as an individual achieving a higher price per certificate, however, personal trade may take 12 months or longer to achieve.
Your Solar West Quote is provided with the full system investment price, the number of STC's the system generates, and the amount of discount you receive as
Solar West offer the trade of STC's as a point of sale discount. We always quote the current market price.
Why is your STC price lower than other prices I've been told?
Solar West provides it's quoted STC price at current market value. The price is accurate at the time your quote is provided and we will advise you of the price at the time of installation. Other suppliers may use a higher STC price in their quote, making your out of pocket expenses seem lower, but a Solar West quote is an honest quotation of what your system will cost.
Will the panels on my roof make my house hotter?
The panel framing is specifically mounted to your roof to provide a clearance gap behind the panels. This enables both water flow and air flow to pass behind the panels and cool the immediate area. Because solar power systems run on sunlight and not sun heat, the performance of the system is not affected whatsoever. In fact, the more sunlight and less heat your system is exposed to the better.
Are my panels strong enough to handle hail?
Solar West only install panels made to AS4777, IEC61215 and IEC61730 standards. Panels under these categories are specifically built and tested to withstand both weather extremes of snow and heavy hail. Our solar panel range have all been tested and approved to withstand heavy hail. Most home insurance policies can be amended to cover solar roof panels at a minimal premium cost.
Can I see how much my system is producing?
At Solar West we only incorporate quality products into our system packages. Our inverters are the best on the market and they all come with a power output display. Our top of the range ‘Power One’ inverters are the most efficient inverters available on the Australian Market
How is the output of each system calculated?
Each system has a maximum total of output that can be generated; for example a 250 W panel has a maximum output of 250W per panel and this is dependent on many variables such as location, orientation, angle of roof and shading.
Solar West sources only true or positive tolerance panels. Building in the highest possible efficiencies for your system.
Solar West has a reputation of spending the time to design and install solar power systems that fully optimise your location and parameters.
Do Solar West power systems come with a warranty?
All our products and system packages come with industry leading warranties. Our panels come with the full manufacturer’s 25 year output guarantee which ensures output performance of up to 90% for 10 years and 80% after 25 years. Our range of inverters all come with 5 and 10 year fully operational warranty as do all other system components. Our workmanship and installation are guaranteed for up to 3 years. Basically, if anything goes wrong we will be there to fix or replace it.
Does my solar system need any maintenance?

Solar West power systems have many positives. They are silent and require no fuel to operate and are almost maintenance free. Regular rainfall will clean the panels from any excess dirt build up and, in areas with minimum rainfall a quarterly hose and wipe down using safe procedures will ensure that your panels are generating at full capacity.

Any problems or faults with the system will be rectified and replaced under the relevant product warranty if and as required.

Who deals with the manufacturers when I need to claim a warranty?
Solar West has gained its reputation because we are a one stop provider of quality systems with unparalleled service delivery. We take care of any warranty replacements and we deal with the manufacturers on your behalf. Our product manufacturers are well respected in the solar industry and they have direct offices in Australia ensuring credibility and minimal delays.
How long can I expect my solar power system to last?
Solar panels are designed to last for up to 35 years. Manufacturers provide the minimum warranty of 25 years. However, if the system is installed and maintained correctly, it will produce electricity for up to 35 years or more. Solar West prides itself on its meticulous attention to design and installation detail which gives you the best return on your investment.
Can I make my system bigger in the future?
Solar West provides custom solar power system packages. Simple custom packages include panels wired to a slightly larger inverter which gives the customer the ability to expand the system by adding more panels at a later date without having to replace the more expensive inverter. What’s important is that when you add more panels and expand the system, it is better to add the same make and model of panel so the system is uniform and compatibility issues are minimised.
What size system is best?
The bigger the better is the simple answer! However this really depends on what you want to achieve. If you are looking for a cost effective way to hedge against rising electricity costs and minimise your bill increases then one of the smaller systems will be ideal for you. For those customers wanting to completely neutralize their bills a larger system should be your choice. The size of your house or business, consumption patterns and available roof space are all considerations that must be factored.
Let's be clear, solar systems produce clean electricity. The more large solar systems installed the better it is for the Australian environment and your power bills.
What happens if I install a system and decide to sell my property?
You will get more for your property with a Solar West power system installed. Official independent research shows that energy efficient houses or commercial space receive more enquiries and achieve higher realised values than those that are non energy efficient. The value of your property increases by the retail value of the system before the rebate as soon as you install a solar power system, so this increase in profit can be transferred towards the installation of a new Solar West power system at your new place of residence or business.
Solar systems are tangible assets and classified as a valuable improvement to the home.
Can I get my STC discount straight away and who takes care of the paperwork?
Solar West is a one-stop provider of solar power systems. We complete all paperwork on your behalf. We provide the value of the STC's as a Point of Sale Discount. We can also offer the option of personal trade for your STC's (achieving a higher price but a timeframe of 6-12 months is possible)
How long will it take to have my solar power system installed?
Some larger commercial installations or systems requiring custom modification or special applications may take longer but standard residential installations should be completed 3-5 weeks from contract signing. Timely installations are important for you and for us.
What are the best operating conditions for my solar system?
Solar panels produce electricity from sunlight and not sun heat. Therefore cooler days with full sunlight are the days where maximum efficiency can be achieved. Notwithstanding this, your solar panels will still produce valuable electricity on cloudy and rainy days, albeit at a lower level of output.
